Bekah Smeltzer - 2007
Bekah Smeltzer has been the most prolific runner in Jefferson Track & Field history. To date, she has won more medals at the state finals than any other runner, not only in Jefferson history, but in Monroe County's history. To her credit she has been third in the D2 state finals in the 1600m and 3200m runs in 2005. In 2004 and 2006 she was the D2 state champion in both the 1600m and 3200m runs. She also was the anchor leg of the 2004 D2 second place 4X800m Relay Team, where she ran a 2:16 split. She currently holds the Jefferson and Monroe County records in the 1600m run at 4:57.10 and the Jefferson, Monroe County, and the D2 State Finals Meet record in the 3200m run at 10:40.66. She also currently holds the 800m run record at Jefferson in 2:22.7 and was part of the 4x800 relay team that holds the school record. Bekah also is the only Jefferson runner to be a Huron League Champion in five different events. She did that feat in the 400m, 800m, 1600m, 3200m, and 4X800m Relay. During Bekah's senior season in 2007 she could not overcome a shin injury that left a void of competition that season. She has rebounded back with her racing to become a full scholarship member of the Michigan State University Cross Country and Track and Field teams.
