Carrie Smeltzer - 2001
Carrie Smeltzer was what coaches call a true program runner. She began her high school career running only 30 miles a week and finished running 60 miles a week. Carrie was a four time state qualifier and was a state medalist three years in a row at the D2 State Finals. Carrie placed 21st in 1998 and led her team to a fifth place finish at the state finals that year. She also finished 10th in 1999 and 3rd in 2000. Carrie's lifetime best in a 5k Cross Country race was at the 2000 state finals in 18:23.5. She was also the Huron League Champion in 2000.. Carrie went on to run in college for Western Michigan University.
